Three easy tips to tighten up your writing

Just like with pizza toppings, when you write - less is more.

Think Margherita.

1. You don't need that.

When you've finished writing, read through and look for the word 'that'. You'll find 9 out of 10 thats are unnecessary. Delete and see how much better it is.

2. Adverbs don't add much.

Watch out for words ending with 'ly and replace them with stronger verbs.

E.g. He walked slowly across the room.

vs.

He CREPT across the room.
He SAUNTERED across the room

3. Simple is best.

To get your message across, shoot for plain english.
